Mt. Longonot Diaries: Heat, Dust & Anguka Nayo!
Unlike our 4:45 AM start for Mt. Satima, this time we were feeling generous! 😄 Our journey to Mt. Longonot kicked off at 6:15 AM, and the vibes were already building.
The drive was smooth….well, apart from the almost 8KM traffic snarl-up heading the opposite direction. As we passed the frustrated drivers, one question kept coming: “Kwani nini inafanyika hapo nyuma?” 😂
By 8:30 AM, we were at Longonot. Bags checked, entry fees paid, obligatory photos taken—and at exactly 9:00 AM, we hit the trail.

Then came the heat.
Let me tell you Maina! The heat was INSANE. The dust? Even worse! And those clear skies were not helping. Every few minutes, someone was probably asking themselves, “Do I really have to continue?” 😂

After a gruelling 3KM climb, we finally reached Crater Point at 2,560M ASL. Time for snacks, pictures and a little celebration… before the real challenge began.

Next up: 7.2KM around the crater rim.
And let me tell you…..! those 7.2KM had a personal vendetta against us! 😭 Some of us were sitting, crawling, negotiating with our legs… basically doing everything except walking normally.

But somehow, we made it.
Kilele Ngamia — 2,780M ASL. Mt. Longonot SUMMIT! 🎉⛰️
The celebrations? ANGUKA NAYO STYLE! 😂 We had conquered Longonot!

Then reality hit: we had to go back down. (This is when you hear people saying, “why don’t they just have zip lining?”)
The descent was a whole different battle. Dust everywhere, tired legs and faces that looked like we’d just come straight from a posho mill! But giving up wasn’t an option. Breaks were taken, water was consumed, and somehow, we made it back to the vehicle around 5:00 PM.
And then came the best-kept secret… COLD SHOWERS! 🚿😂 For only Ksh 150, you could wash away the dust and sweat. Some took the offer. Others? They had officially retired for the day!
At 6:00 PM, we started the drive back to Nairobi. Within minutes, the entire crew was knocked out, except the driver, who kept the journey alive with Rhumba and Gospel music. 😂
By 8:00 PM, everyone was safely dropped off.
Tired? Absolutely.
Dusty? VERY.
Worth it? 100%. ❤️
But guess what?
