Views Worth the Climb

If you told us at 4:00 AM that we’d be standing at 4,001M ASL later that afternoon, some of us probably would have asked you to let us sleep!
Our Mount Satima adventure started bright and VERY early, with the first pick-up from CBD at 4:00 AM and the final pick-up at 4:45 AM. The drive was so silent, you’d think the car was empty! 😂 Everyone was busy catching up on the sleep they had sacrificed for this adventure.
After a pit stop and a scenic drive, we finally arrived at the Aberdares Gate at 9:15 AM. Quick stretch of the legs, everyone out of the van, and then off we went to Rhino Gate—ready to take on the mighty Dragon’s Teeth: Mount Satima!
We left the main gate at 9:40 AM, arrived at Rhino Gate at 10:15 AM, had our briefing and stretches, and at exactly 10:20 AM… WE WERE OFF!
And then came the views… 😍

Honestly, the scenery was MAGICAL! Every few minutes someone would stop and say, “Wait, we need a photo here!” 😂 The mountains, valleys, clouds and endless landscapes made it impossible to just keep walking.

But as the kilometres passed, something interesting happened…
The banter slowly disappeared. 😂
The once-talkative crew became suspiciously quiet, and the only question you could hear was:
“How far are we from the summit?” 😭😂

Then we’d meet hikers coming down from the peak.
“Guys, you’re almost there! Don’t give up!”
Then another group:
“You’re actually still about two hours away… or less.”
At this point, some of us were seriously questioning our life choices! 😂 But we kept pushing—with snacks, encouragement, plenty of banter and sheer determination.
And yes… there were moments when people were dropping like sacks because those legs had officially filed a complaint!
Then came the final 1¾ KM.

Let me tell you…
THAT STRETCH WAS NOT PLAYING! 😭🔥
The trail got steeper, the altitude started making its presence known, and for some of us, the stomachs decided they had had enough. 🤢😂
But quitting was NOT an option.
One step.
Then another.
Then another.
And finally…
We saw it.
“CONGRATULATIONS — HONGERA!
OLDONYO LESATIMA PEAK — 4,001M ASL.” 🏔️🔥

YEEEEEEESSSSSSS!!! WE MADE IT!!! 🎉🙌🏽
At exactly 3:15 PM, after 5 HOURS of hiking, we stood at the summit of Mount Satima!
And WOW… 😍
The views from the top were simply HEAVENLY. It was one of those moments where the struggle, exhaustion, sore legs and questionable life decisions suddenly became completely worth it.

We celebrated with our remaining fruits and snacks, took what felt like a million photos 📸😂, soaked in the views and enjoyed the satisfaction of knowing:
WE HAD CONQUERED SATIMA! 💪🏽🔥

At 3:45 PM, we started our descent—and compared to the climb, this felt like a walk in the park! 😂
By 6:05 PM, we were back at the car park. Quick stretches, summit badges 🏅, a well-deserved cup of tea ☕ and then…
VAMOS!
We hit the road back to Nairobi at 6:30 PM.
And guess what?
The van was silent AGAIN. 😂
Only this time, it wasn’t because everyone was trying to catch up on sleep before the hike…
EVERYONE WAS COMPLETELY FINISHED! 😴😂
Well… everyone except the driver. 😅 Someone had to stay awake and get us home safely!
Our first drop-off was at 10:30 PM, with the final stop just before 11:00 PM.
Tired? YES.
Sore? ABSOLUTELY.
Exhausted? 100%!
Would we do it again? WITHOUT A DOUBT!
Mount Satima was more than just a hike. It was the views, the struggle, the laughter, the snacks, the friendships, the “how far are we?” moments, the summit celebration and memories that will stay with us for a long time.
🏔️ 4,001M — CONQUERED! 🏔️
One summit down… ON TO THE NEXT ONE!
And if you were thinking of joining us but stayed home…
FOMO IS REAL, GUYS! 😂🔥
